Expected June 15, 2023

Lyla Eden has spent the last few years watching her siblings fall in love. Meanwhile, she’s married to her job. It’s on her hundredth consecutive workday that her sister stages an intervention, kicking Lyla out of her own coffee shop. With nothing else to do, Lyla sets out on her favorite hiking trail.

It’s there that she spots a man washing blood from his hands in a stream. One moment she’s staring at the jagged scar on his face. The next, his hand is around her throat. But by some miracle, he lets her go.

Shaken to her core, Lyla reports the incident to the local police. Two days later, Vance Sutter arrives in town, armed with endless questions and a tarnished badge.

Vance may be ruggedly handsome but he’s as mysterious as the man he’s hunting. And he’ll be gone from Quincy in a blink. Yet Lyla’s crush is impossible to stop.

No matter how hard Vance tries to ignore it, there’s no denying the chemistry between them. And avoiding Lyla is not an option. After years of chasing dead ends, she’s his only lead to closing the case that haunts his career. So together, they’ll retrace her steps.

To find the scarred man she met beside a crimson river.

Lyla Eden is a small-town, workaholic, coffee shop owner who was just going on a much-needed hike on an afternoon off. She didn’t know it was going to change her life. After an incident left her traumatized, it seemed like she was just going to have to live with the implications because the local law enforcement and her family could not find the answers she needed.

Deputy Vance Sutter is looking for his own answers and redemption amidst his own personal struggles. He’s been chasing a criminal for years for personal reasons and it seems that Lyla met this man on the trail. So now Vance is in Quincy and he’s using his skills to try to track this man and Lyla is putting her faith in him. It’s been a while since somebody had faith in him, so he doesn’t want to let her down. But he is also a man of mystery and has some secrets.

Sometimes you just need to forget the ugly stuff, and they find themselves finding comfort in each other. Their chemistry is volatile and they are magnets searching each other out. But as they work together to track the man they are both looking for, they are not sure of what they might find or what the truth really is.

Hot nights. No promises. Time-sensitive. Common goal. But what happens when the search ends one way or another?

This is a story layered with secrets and questions and they are searching for the answers. These are especially answers that Vance really needs to questions that have haunted him for years. It's about being lost and then being found, hope and healing, family and home. It brings back the Eden family, and introduces us to and lets us spend some time with the main characters for the next story, Sable Peak as well.
Lyla Eden has poured everything into her coffee shop. She is a workaholic and though she knows she has people around her that can and will step in if she needs time off, she would prefer to be working. A forced afternoon off leads to an incident that shakes her to her core and even after the bruises fade she finds herself searching to find peace again.

Vance Sutter arrives in town shortly after the attack on Lyla and though he keeps a low profile, he has questions about her attack. His law enforcement background gives him the resources to continue the search unofficially. He thinks he has a connection to the man who attacked her, and has been searching for him for years to bring him to justice.

These two find themselves working together to find the man behind the attack, but they also find themselves fighting an attraction that will only get in the way of any investigation. As local law enforcement has their hands tied and those with jurisdiction close their investigation, Vance is sure his target is still somewhere nearby.

There is an element of insta-love, but not entirely. There were no promises made, and everything was based on the time Vance was going to be in town. It felt less like insta-love the further they progressed and as they faced the end of Vance’s time in Eden.

I enjoyed the suspense story line, possibly more than the romantic plot. I had my guesses about how everyone was connected and what Vance would find if and when he caught up to his target, and though I still have questions about pieces of Cormac’s story, I was intrigued by the revelations.

I loved returning to the Eden family saga and small town life in Eden. There is always so much going on with this family and I love the way they always circle around each other and lend a hand. Lyla may not be the best at stepping back when others step up to help, but I love the way her family pushes their way in to make her accept the help. I cannot wait to see what is in store for Mateo’s story next -- I have so many questions!

From USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry comes a small town, enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance.

Winslow Covington believes in life, liberty and the letter of the law. As Quincy, Montana’s new chief of police, she’s determined to prove herself to the community and show them she didn’t earn her position because her grandfather is the mayor.

According to her pops, all she has to do is earn favor with the Edens. But winning over the town’s founding family might have been easier if not for her one-night stand with their oldest son. In her defense, it was her first night in town and she didn’t realize that the rugged and charming man who wooed her into bed was Quincy royalty.

Sleeping with Griffin Eden was a huge mistake, one she’s trying to forget. He’s insufferable, arrogant and keeps reminding everyone that she’s an outsider. Winslow does her best to avoid Griffin, but when a woman is found dead on Eden property, the two of them have no choice but to cross paths.

As clues to the murderer lead to one of Quincy’s own, Griffin realizes Winslow is more than he gave her credit for. Beautiful and intelligent, she proves hard to resist. For him. And the killer.
