An unrequited love, small town romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author, Devney Perry.

Vera Gallagher is chasing constant. For four years, her life was anything but normal. And the years before that she refuses to even remember. Dwelling on the past only hurts. Life is fragile, a lesson her mother taught her well. She’s determined not to waste a moment of her newfound freedom.

Maybe some would consider her crush on Mateo Eden wasted time. Maybe some would call her a fool for loving a man who hasn’t once dropped a crumb of interest her way. Still, to Vera, it’s Mateo or nothing.

He’s handsome. Charming. Witty. And he loves his family the way Vera loves—with her whole heart.

Maybe he’ll never notice her. Maybe she’s too damaged, too broken, to find that normal life she craves. Maybe her secrets will always keep them apart. But Vera will love him anyway. Whether Mateo realizes it or not.

This one started a bit slow for me I think because I was sympathizing with Vera during some time jumps. Her life had been disrupted several times and she was just trying to start fresh, find her way, and deal with her huge unrequited crush on Mateo Eden. She sometimes feels like she is broken and needs to heal, and often feels guilty and worries about her father. But she is strong, brave, stubborn, big-hearted, and determined.

Mateo also had been through major life changes both in career, location, and family. He has found a new reason to settle back home near his large family in their small town, but is not sure about his future career path. He is charming, handsome, easygoing, and a bit of an adrenaline junkie.

My heart broke for Vera who had been through so much and just wanted to be seen and loved. I wanted to smack sense into Mateo early on. But he definitely won me over and became a totally swoon-worthy guy.  This is not just a love story between a man and a woman, but it is also about family love, self-worth, and being fulfilled in all ways. Vera and Mateo both have plenty of opportunities for growth and to figure out what they need to be happy. And they both have secrets from their past to share in order to be truly vulnerable, let down their walls, and heal. I actually adored them together. They had great chemistry and there was also just an ease in their connection and how they fit together.(at least once a certain someone opened his eyes to possibilities).

The Edens are a wonderful, supportive family. I love seeing them try to take care of each other and seeing the family continue to grow. It is sad that this is the last book, but part of me hopes that maybe there might be a legacy series at some point. There are certainly enough kids.

This was the ending to the Edens series that I have been hoping for!

Vera spent several years living a very non-traditional life. Now that she is settled in Quincy, she is working to find where she fits and how to stay in the moment. She formed a crush on Mateo shortly after arriving in Quincy permanently, and though she is a peripheral member of the family, she doesn’t think he notices her beyond being Vance’s niece.

Mateo has settled in Quincy near family after his life took a twist he didn’t see coming. He isn’t sure what his long term goals and aspirations are, but for now he is where he needs to be. He is singularly focused on his own struggles and doesn’t take much time outside the Eden family businesses and his family.

Vera instantly pulled at my heartstrings in Crimson River and I wanted to know about THAT night from her perspective or to learn what secrets she knew. I also was intrigued by the speed at which Mateo tore out of Quincy in the epilogue of Crimson River and had questions about those events as well. In all, this story pulled me in from the start and kept me coming back for more.

The interactions from other Edens, as well as Vera’s Uncle Vance (also from Crimson River) tied this book nicely to the rest of the series.

I loved everything about this story, even the parts that in the moment felt like a slight to Vera. In the moment I was so disappointed for her, but in hindsight, I loved what came out of those moments - both for her and for Mateo. But I had high hopes for this book and they were upheld in the end.

From USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry comes a small town, enemies-to-lovers contemporary romance.

Winslow Covington believes in life, liberty and the letter of the law. As Quincy, Montana’s new chief of police, she’s determined to prove herself to the community and show them she didn’t earn her position because her grandfather is the mayor.

According to her pops, all she has to do is earn favor with the Edens. But winning over the town’s founding family might have been easier if not for her one-night stand with their oldest son. In her defense, it was her first night in town and she didn’t realize that the rugged and charming man who wooed her into bed was Quincy royalty.

Sleeping with Griffin Eden was a huge mistake, one she’s trying to forget. He’s insufferable, arrogant and keeps reminding everyone that she’s an outsider. Winslow does her best to avoid Griffin, but when a woman is found dead on Eden property, the two of them have no choice but to cross paths.

As clues to the murderer lead to one of Quincy’s own, Griffin realizes Winslow is more than he gave her credit for. Beautiful and intelligent, she proves hard to resist. For him. And the killer.

Memphis Ward arrives in Quincy, Montana, on the fifth worst day of her life. She needs a shower. She needs a snack. She needs some sanity. Because moving across the country with her newborn baby is by far the craziest thing she’s ever done.

But maybe it takes a little crazy to build a good life. If putting the past behind her requires a thousand miles and a new town, she’ll do it if it means a better future for her son. Even if it requires setting aside the glamour of her former life. Even if it requires working as a housekeeper at The Eloise Inn and living in an apartment above a garage.

It’s there, on the fifth worst day of her life, that she meets the handsomest man she’s ever laid eyes on. Knox Eden is a beautiful, sinful dream, a chef and her temporary landlord. With his sharp, stubbled jaw and tattooed arms, he’s raw and rugged and everything she’s never had—and never will. Because after the first worst day of her life, Memphis learned a good life requires giving up on her dreams too. And a man like Knox Eden will only ever be a dream.
