I joined the team at Jameson Force Security three months ago and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. Leaving behind the Marine Corps together, my dog Omega and I made the cross-country trek to Pittsburgh for an exciting new career. Now I get to spend my days doing dangerous missions with my team and Omega gets to spend his days relaxing, unless there are explosives to be sniffed, and then he’s all paws on deck.

When Omega—who I affectionately refer to as Bubba—snacks on something he most definitely shouldn’t have, an emergency trip to the vet introduces me to Abigail Blackburn. She’s a little quirky, a lot smart, and completely captivating. She also has a penchant for trouble and when Abby makes it her own personal mission to expose the puppy mill industry, she finds herself mixed up with unsavory characters who aren’t happy with her efforts to cut into their profits

This seedy underbelly is a dangerous place, particularly for a well-intentioned, yet somewhat naïve, small-town vet. What began as peaceful protests outside of local pet stores has escalated into something that threatens Abby’s safety, and I refuse to sit by and watch her get hurt. Somehow this raven-haired beauty has gotten under my skin, and I don’t hesitate to call in my teammates at Jameson to help keep her safe.

Now I find myself trying to balance my need to protect Abby while helping her successfully complete her mission, but also redirecting her focus long enough to show her that I’ve completely fallen for her. One thing is certain—this is going to be my toughest assignment yet.

Kellen McCord is new to Jameson Security but happy to be leaving his past behind and starting a new life in Pittsburgh with his beloved ex-military dog, Omega (Bubba).  When Bubba needs some help, he meets Abby Blackburn. She is a vet with a heart of gold, but he soon finds out she is also a bold, brave spitfire putting a target on her back and getting in trouble while trying to save puppy mill dogs.

Soon he is helping her sort through it while also trying to keep her safe which is not always easy since she is a bit impulsive and strong-willed. But all along they are connecting and falling for each other.

It was kind of nice that this installment was based at home dealing with local issues instead of in some foreign country. It hit me personally because we think our rescue who is the sweetest girl came to us looking like she had given birth several times and when we did her DNA test she came out as 100 percent pit bull. So we can only assume that somehow she was rescued from a puppy mill situation.

Kellen is just the sweetest, most caring, loving, thoughtful man, but still alpha, bossy, and hot enough to be a commando. And Abby just wants to help all the puppies no matter the cost, but the people they are going up against are serious. And she also is struggling with some issues from her past that she will eventually need to face.

I loved how these two just vibed from the beginning and kind of latched onto each other. Kellen went into protector mode early on even if Abby did not think she needed it. Their connection felt honest and their chemistry was amazing. But he is also this calming, steady presence most of the time...when he was not ready to take action himself. I just loved them together and even the dogs made great characters.

Many of the Jameson gang make appearances and it is fun to see some progressions. I love their sense of community and family. And speaking of family, I would enjoy a spin-off with Abby's brothers  Ethan, Trey, and Wade, and her sister, Kat.  I enjoyed the peek into their world surrounding horses.
Kellen McCord is new to the Jameson team, along with his former military K-9 partner, Omega. Settling in is smooth and though he is still working on finding his place in the team, he is building something new in Pittsburgh. Things are going according to plan until Omega eats something he shouldn’t and ends up at a new vet’s office for tests. It’s there Kellen meets Abby Blackburn.

Abby moved away from her family’s horse operation in Kentucky to make her own decisions. But as she makes moves to take over a small town vet’s office from the near-retirement owner, she finds herself advocating against a local puppy mill and in the center of some dangerous activities.

I loved watching as Kellen learned more about Abby and worried more and more about the danger she was putting herself into, even as his attraction for her grew. Abby, herself, was smart and caring, even as she showed naivete in certain situations.

There was so much to love about this story: the characters, the plot, and the animals. I was rather surprised by how much I liked this, even though the scale of the Jameson activities was much smaller than most of the other books, there was a lot of intrigue and tension as Kellen did what he could to keep Abby safe as she worked to save as many dogs as she could.

This was a great addition to the Jameson series and I loved the bits we got from the team. With the addition of Abby’s big family, I hope there is a spin off in the works, because I would love to dive into the lives of the Blackburn brothers on their horse farm.
